Southampton Operatic Society returns with the highly acclaimed musical “Chess”.
With music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the boys from ABBA, and with lyrics by Tim Rice, the story focuses on two chess grandmasters, an American and a Soviet, who fight it out, not just on the chess board, but also over the love of a woman, who manages one and falls in love with the other—But is the game of chess really what is being played in the politically-driven, Cold War-era, or are they themselves merely pawns in a bigger game?
With well-known tunes including “One Night in Bangkok” and “I know him so well”, made famous by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson, this is rare opportunity to see this powerful musical.
